This article from Alternet ties in nicely with what our keynote speaker was speaking about yesterday. We are Sudan at this conference and it really connects into the issues and conflicts we have been researching to prepare for this conference.

Although not unprecedented, Reid's prediction of an upsurge in resource conflict is significant both because of his senior rank and the vehemence of his remarks. "The blunt truth is that the lack of water and agricultural land is a significant contributory factor to the tragic conflict we see unfolding in Darfur," he declared. "We should see this as a warning sign."

Day 2

The troops are well rested. Fueled by more Code Red Mountain Dew and Dunkin Donuts than should be humanly possible, they are back at it this morning. Some have had excellect chairs and are working well in their committees and others have had lousy chairs who are havign a hard time controling the room.
Melanie and Megan have run tight ships in their committees. Things have gone very well for them in their final conference.
So far we have Gananda delgates who are driving their committees. We should come home with some awards from those kids. Everyone is having a good time and they are really learning alot.

Everyone seems to be having fun. Most Gananda people are sitting near the front and participating when I have been there, so that has been good. Legal Political got a reso passed. Good job Robbie, Lauren & Amanda!
The faculty dinner was good. It is great to catch up with people you haven't seen in awhile.

Overall: A successful day and I am sure we will have another successful one tomorrow.

The food here is always great. The one complaint I have is that there isn't any direction to the lines and the food. SJFC doesn't seem to have a good organization for the cafeteria. Food is here. Different food is over there. Drinks are around the corner. Glasses & silverware are MIA. It is really difficult to find stuff.

UNAR - Millenium Campaign

After winning best delegation at the Hilton Conference in the fall, we are starting again on our next conference. We heard an excellent speaker today, Mr. Amil Husain from the United Nations Millenium Campaign. Mr. Husain serves as their Global Youth Coordinator. I thought that his short 20 minute talk really brought home to the students the role that they can play in helping to eradicate global poverty. I would like to get his message to Gananda, but I am not sure how yet.

Hilton Conference

Gananda won the best delegation award (small schools) at this past weekend's Hilton Model UN conference. One student won best delegate and another won outstanding delegate for their respective committees. Congratulations to them and everyone else who went to the conference. Now we need to prepare for Fisher in March.

GMUN will be collecting money all next week for Hurricane relief. All money will be donated to the Red Cross. Please help if you can.

Welcome to the Gananda Model UN weblog!
Our goal is to inform you of upcoming conferences, important deadlines and provide you with a place to find research links and news articles that might be important for your research as you prepare for conferences.
Our first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13th and we will begin planning for the Hilton conference. Hilton is scheduled for Friday, November 11th and Saturday November 12th.
